Abstract
CA-125 is a high molecular weighted glycoprotein cellular antigen which is expressed
on the surfaces of some derivatives of embryonal coelomic epithelial cells. CA, 125 is
known to be elevated in the serum of patients of gynecologic malignancy including
primary and metastatic ovarian carcinoma and endometrial carcinoma. It is currently
used as a sensitive tumor marker of gynecologic malignancy.
But there have been reports suggesting the CA, 125 level in serum was elevated in
benign gynecologic diseases and non, gynecologic diseases including acute pneumonia
and hepatic cirrhosis.
We have experienced 3 cases of patients with high serum CA, 125 values in whom
the diagnosis of tuberculous peritonitis were made by laparotomy (1 case) and
peritoneoscopic biopsies (2 cases).
We report these cases with brief review of the literatures.
